Setting a homegrown branch overseas:  Implications on business communication

Introduction
Roti boy was founded in 1993 at Penang, Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia the true purpose of this organization which formed by the Founder`s is not only to make their life easy but also for the people and the society. “Roti boy” started their first bakery as a district bakery they baked fresh breads and loafs for brood, children to bring to school, also cakes for birthday celebration, home-makers was their best friends. In 2002, freshly baked was handled “one bun that rules us all”, 2003 is when Roti boy started the “Revolution of Bun” which went globally starting from Singapore our neighbor. Even now Roti boy have been baking more than 400 million buns and has 200 over stores some of them are in China, South Korea, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia lastly Indonesia. We are expecting to open more stores at Asia market and also in the American and European markets in upcoming future.

Origins      
The brand name of “Roti boy” is originally from the bond between their family who is his nephew and the founder himself. The nephew was born in 1996 even since his birth they are very close to each other, every single morning the nephew will craw at his uncle`s bed and sometimes his uncle will be drinking his milk from the bottle. One day, the founder`s younger brother was playing with the nephew and teased him “naught boy” and that inspired the founder to name “Roti boy”. “Bread” means “Roti”. Consequently, Roti boy means Bread boy. Roti boy is a very particular for bakery in Malaysia.

When the brand name Roti boy started to evolve it changed its name to “one bun that rules them all”. The bun was very new in the market and it was not familiar yet, customers started broach the bun as “roti boy” and finally roti boy has become the official name of the bun to the society. Roti boy vision is to be a superlative global brand which can touch the lives of all the people not only in Malaysia but all around the world through their products, values and services.
       
Mission
Roti boy mission is to develop and produce the most methodical product in a manner in which it will go through of cutting edge technology that can ensure lowest cost, and usage of less wastage of resources but with the most elevated standard of quality and hygiene. Therefore, Roti boy aims is to provide collaborator a standard of living that is worth living for, giving a comfortable and beneficial environment and emolument for the families to expand and to contribute to company and society. 

Roti boy is trying there for most to deliver their product to the customers constantly in a which will satisfy their customer service, and had done settings of a standard warm, there will be no personal services for the customers because customers are the priority. Roti boy is dedicated to provide their best to support the business partners to fortify their dreams to make their vision come true. They have committed to be together in every step they make even in the inflexible times. We declare that in all instances we will be nature friendly in our policies and management decisions.

Future market - Belgium
Roti boy has decided to expand their business to Belgium, Europe. Therefore, they decided to open their branch at City called Ghent. They selected Ghent as their spot because Ghent has the largest population of people in Belgium, they have 250,000 people living in that City. By having higher population of people their products will be sold much faster and easier (in-text?)

Belgium has 2 different primary cultural groups. The Dutch-speaking Flemings where they live in Flanders, at north, they make as much 55% of the population. The French-speaking Walloons lives at Wallonia, at south, and they are 33% of the population. Belgians believe that hard work and gratitude for their culture is very valuable, they think of themselves as the Europeans, Flemings or Walloons second, and Belgians are third. Strong family systems are important to Belgian society. Large amount of family member has to love in separate homes, but mostly they stay around the placed they been raised (in-text?)

Meeting and greetings
Like every other country Belgium has his own way of meeting and greetings. In Belgium, when entering a meeting or attending a party they start with shaking their hands with the people that are present at the moment doesn’t matter if its woman, men or even children`s this represents even if they are at business or social meetings. Other than that, when you being introduce to someone you have to introduce your name to the person you are going to talk with.

There are 3 different types of language that is being used widely in Belgium which is German, Dutch, and French. It is very important to have workers that could speak those languages because it will be in handy in Belgium. Nevertheless, you can speak in English if you in doubts with the customers. Belgium is the only place in the Europe that you will get into trouble for using an incorrect language. Negotiators can choose to speak in Brussels is English to negotiate.  

Body language
It is very important know the body language of the country that you are heading to, it will help the Bakery to have good manners at the country. In Belgium it is considered as boorish to snap your fingers. You should consider this when you are in public yawning, putting your hands in your pockets, use toothpick or scratch. Others, feet should never be put on top of chairs or tables, back slapping is offensive, lastly doing “okay” sign mean its zero. 

Corporate culture
Before heading towards a different country, you have to learn about the corporate culture of the country that you are going to set your business. Punctuality must be taken very seriously when attending business meeting in Belgium. Give your explanation if your delayed for a meeting. When attending business meeting it is very important to present your business card. Therefore, Belgians accept business cards which are in English. Belgians like to socialize with the people around for a short time before getting down to business at meetings. In the first meeting they are generally to familiarize and developing trust.

Belgians are well known for their negotiation, compromise and common sense. They acknowledge figures and clear facts. In Flanders, they make business organization mostly simple and horizontal. Participatory management, are very concern and deputation of responsibility is very common at the workplace. Walloons prefers prefer structure, clear hierarchical systems, directive leadership and formal organization. Following the procedures and rules is very important to Walloons, because there is rank and job titles. You are 

Dining and entertainment
Belgium has his own unique way of dining and entertainment, for Belgians having business lunches are very common but having a business breakfast is very rare. When you are in a restaurant you are required to raise your and make an eye contact with the waiter or waitress. When Belgians sitting down for their meal they will keep their hand on the table all the time and not in their lap. However, you have to keep your elbows off the table. Also, you are allowed to accept any drinks that offered by the host but don’t ask for drinks that is not offered. In a party husbands and wives will not be seating together. 

However, the host and hostesses will have to be sited at the opposite ends of the tables. Its unique that Belgians, will make a male guest to be sited next to hostess on the right and a female guest will be sited on the right of the host. You have to wait until the host starts his first toast to start drinking. Belgians doesn`t like to waste food it is better to finish the foods on the plate. Fork and knife are placed at the 5:25 position side by side after finish eating. When you are at host`s home it is considered impolite to ask for a tour.

Others
In Belgium, the Belgians likes to dress conservatively. When attending meetings men`s are required to wear dark suite`s and ties. For women should wear dresses, skirts, suits and blouses. Belgians, doesn’t exchange gifts during a business meeting. When you are invited to someone`s house, it is a must to bring flowers for the hostess even if its candy for children`s or a small gift`s it is appreciated. However, don’t give any chrysanthemums, it means death. They predominantly open`s the gift in front of the giver. Belgians, doesn’t really like to receive expensive or extravagant gifts.

When you are in Belgium, avoid talking about linguistic divisions or personal matters with Belgians. In Belgium, when women enter the room men`s are expected to rise. Men are also supposed to being remain standing at public transportation until the women`s are seated. Don’t be flaunt wealth or be loud and noisy in public. Avoid asking personal questions about Belgians personal lives. You have to try your best to sneeze and blow your nose in private.

Conclusion
In this assignment we have the details about the company, including its name, location mission and vision and products and services. Lastly, we also have done research about the country that we have chosen about its greeting, corporate culture, body language, formalities and many more. We also have learned what to do and what no to do at Belgium.
